Proof of what’s real for the AI era

We’re building the infrastructure to verify where digital content came from and whether a person authorised an action.

Origin checks where a photo came from and every edit since.

How Origin verifies a photo

Platform

Rooted in hardware.
Proven with cryptography

Verena turns signed evidence into claims anyone can check. Supported devices sign evidence in secure hardware, and cryptographic proofs, including zero-knowledge proofs, keep it verifiable through supported edits.

  1. 1

    Prove at the source

Evidence is signed in secure hardware the moment it’s created

  2. 2

    Preserve through change

Each supported edit carries its own proof, so the evidence still holds afterwards

  3. 3

    Verify anywhere

Anyone can check a specific claim without seeing the private inputs

Origin

Image provenance Open for pilots

Origin checks that a photo was signed on a supported device when it was taken, and that every edit since comes with a proof.

  • ProvePhotos are signed in secure hardware the moment they’re taken. Today this includes Apple’s photo signatures.
  • PreserveCrops and blurs come with a proof, so the signature still holds after editing
  • VerifyCheck the signature and every edit, wherever the photo ends up

Next: request an original when evidence is missing, and return a result your application can use.

What a result means

Precise about what the evidence shows

A verification result answers one specific question. It doesn’t judge what a photo shows.

What does a verified signature tell me?

That the photo was captured on a supported device, and which edits were made since, each with a proof. It doesn’t say whether the scene is true: a signed photo of a screen is still a photo of a screen.

What if a photo has no signature?

Then there is no evidence either way. Many real photos carry no signature, so it doesn’t mean the photo is fake. You decide what happens next, such as a manual review or asking the sender for the original.

Which photos can Origin verify today?

Photos signed on supported devices, including Apple’s photo signatures. Send us a sample and we’ll show you what verifies.

How does a pilot work?

For Origin, we start with a sample of your incoming photos and show you what share carries verifiable evidence. From there we scope where a check fits in your flow.

On the same platform

One foundation for verifiable digital events

The same signed evidence and cryptographic proofs reach well beyond images. If your verification problem lives in video, approvals or AI, tell us where your problem sits, and we’ll build verification into your workflow as an API your product can call.

Research

Research leaders in zero-knowledge proofs and secure computation

Our team’s work on zero-knowledge proofs, private machine learning and secure computation is published at top security venues, including USENIX Security. Verena turns that research into products.

What do you need to prove?

We’re looking for pilot partners with a concrete verification need. For Origin, send us a sample of your incoming photos, and we’ll show you what share carries verifiable evidence and what to do with the rest.
